Vietnam top Southeast Asian Vovinam Championships

Vietnam took the lead in the first day of the third Southeast Asian Vovinam Championships in Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar on October 23, winning five gold, four silver and one bronze medals.

The host Myanmar came to second with three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Vietnam sent 30 martial artists to the week-long event which has gathered hundreds of contestants from seven regional countries.

Vietnam triumphed in the 2013 edition hosted in Cambodia, winning a total of 11 gold and 11 silver medals.

Vovinam,a Vietnamese martial art, has grown significantly in recent years withgood results achieved on the international stage.-VNA
