Vietnam to open investment promotion conference in US

The State Securities Commission (SCC) will hold an investment promotion conference themed “My Vietnam - your investment destination” in New York City, the US from July 1- 5.
The State Securities Commission (SCC)will hold an investment promotion conference themed “My Vietnam - yourinvestment destination” in New York City, the US from July 1- 5.

Atthe conference, the Ministry of Finance and the SCC will present newpolicies to help Vietnam ’s securities market reach internationalexpectations.

Decree 60, issued last week, allows foreign investors to raise their stakes in Vietnamese public listed companies.

Inaddition, the Government issued other policies that reduce transactionterms and allow traders to settle their trading activities within theday.

The conference is expected to help increase American businesses’ and investors’ confidence in Vietnam’s securities market.

Through the conference, Vietnam hopes to develop comprehensive financial cooperation between the two countries.

Accordingto the SSC, 600 US investors have taken stakes in the nationalsecurities market – but only mid-cap and small-cap ones.

To drawbigger investors, the Government has tried to upgrade the country’sstock markets to meet international standards and become more modern.

Theconference will have two parts. The first will concern securitiespolicies between Vietnamese representatives and American investors andcompanies, to collect feedback from the US side.

Through the discussion, Vietnam will show its commitment to and appreciation for American businesses and investors.

In the second part, companies will discuss their experience and opportunities operating in Vietnam’s financial market.

Somelarge local companies, including the State Capital and InvestmentCompany (SCIC), Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and VietnamNational Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), and about 100 USinvestment funds and companies, will participate in the conference.-VNA
