Vietnam to celebrate International Day of Happiness

Vietnam is to celebrate for the first time the International Day of Happiness, which is marked throughout the world on March 20, with the aim of promoting the well-being of all people.

The annualcelebration was founded in June 2012 by the United Nations GeneralAssembly, who stated that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamentalhuman goal.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourismis working with other ministries to gear up for a related week-longevent, themed ‘Love and Sharing’, slated for March 8-21.

Covering a number of workshops, forums, contests, training courses andsport and culture activities – all pertaining to contentment in work,family, and community life – the event aims to raise public awareness ofHappiness Day and encourage more action to be taken to build a happysociety.

This is also a chance to popularise the country’spolicies and laws on social welfare and the construction of happy andprogressive families, as well as honour the good examples set by worthypeople nationwide.

In 2012, Vietnam was ranked as the world’ssecond happiest country by the UK’s New Economic Foundation, behindCosta Rica. Colombia rounded up the top three.-VNA
