Vietnam supports Doan Thi Huong to return home after release
Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry has coordinated with relevant agencies, the Vietnam Bar Federation, and the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia to implement all necessary citizen protection procedures for Doan Thi Huong to return home right after she is released.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s ForeignMinistry has coordinated with relevant agencies, the Vietnam Bar Federation,and the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia to implement all necessary citizenprotection procedures for Doan Thi Huong to return home right after she isreleased.
The ministry’s Spokesperson, Le Thi Thu Hang,made the statement at a regular press conference in Hanoi on April 25 inresponse to reporters’ queries about Vietnam’s preparations to support Huong, whoinvolved in the case related to the murder of a man holding a DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) passport with the name of Kim Chol.
The Malaysia’s Shah Alam High Court (MLS) onApril 1 sentenced Doan Thi Huong to three years and four months imprisonment onthe charge of causing injuries using dangerous means, instead of the initialcharge of murder. The penalty is calculated starting from the time Doan ThiHuong was arrested on February 15, 2017.
According to Japan’s Kyodo News, Huong’s lawyerNaran Singh on April 13 said she will be released on May 3.
He told Kyodo News in a short phone text thatthe Malaysia prisons department has confirmed Doan Thi Huong, 30, will bereleased on that day from the women's prison in Kajang, on the outskirts ofKuala Lumpur.-VNA
Vietnam has repeatedly requested Malaysia to ensure a fair trial for and legitimate rights of citizen Doan Thi Huong, a suspect in the murder of a Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) national at Kuala Lumpur airport in 2017, the foreign ministry’s spokeswoman has said.
The Shah Alam High Court in Selangor state of Malaysia on April 1 sentenced Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, a suspect in the murder of a man holding a Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) passport with the name of Kim Chol, to three years and four months imprisonment.
Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, the only defendant in the case related to the murder of a man holding a DPRK passport with the name of Kim Chol, might be released in the first week of May, possibly May 8.
The Vietnamese Government, Foreign Ministry, relevant agencies, and Vietnam Bar Federation have implemented citizen protection measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese national Doan Thi Huong in her trial in Malaysia, the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang said.
