On April 18, China announced the establishment of the so-calledXisha district at Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, and Nansha districtat Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, in the so-called Sansha city. “Vietnam has strongly affirmed many times that it has sufficienthistorical evidence and legal foundation to assert its sovereignty over theHoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos,” spokesperson Thu Hang said. She stressed that those moves of China are invalid and unrecognized,and they are not favourable for the friendship among nations and further complicatethe situation in the East Sea, the region and the world.
“Vietnam demands that China respect Vietnam’s sovereignty,abolish its wrongful decisions related to the moves and not to commit similar actsin the future,” the spokesperson asserted./.
Vietnam has lodged an official complaint with China following the sinking of a Vietnamese fishing vessel near the former’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said on April 3.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on April 8 issued a statement expressing its deep concern over a China coast guard ship’s hitting and sinking of a Vietnamese fishing vessel in the East Sea.
Dr. Gerhard Will, a German expert on the East Sea, has said that China should quit its militarisation in the East Sea and show its willingness and cooperation capacity in security and economy on the basis of equality and the observance of international law.

Vietnam has taken correct and timely action on the East Sea issue by sending a diplomatic note to the UN Secretary General to oppose China's claim over the East Sea and assert Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, according to Russian international law researchers and experts.
