HCM City (VNA) – Vietnam and Singapore want to step up the comprehensive andsubstantial development of defence links in the coming time as heard at their10th defence policy dialogue.
Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh and Permanent Secretaryfor Defence of Singapore Chan Yeng Kit co-chaired the 10th Vietnam –Singapore defence policy dialogue in Ho Chi Minh City on June 17.
Both sidesdiscussed security situation in Asia-Pacific and progress of cooperation at theASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), ADMM Plus, reviewed the outcomes ofdefence ties following the ninth dialogue, and agreed on cooperationorientations in the near future.
They spokehighly of bilateral defence links over the past years, especially in exchangeof young officers and training, naval and air force collaboration, informationsharing, army medicine, and joint work at multilateral forums to which they aremembers.
Both sidespaid attention to training, especially in language and international relationsas well as sharing experience in treating tropical diseases, and cooperationamong forces, especially naval and air forces.
For the comprehensiveand substantial development of bilateral defence links in the coming time, thesides agreed to actively coordinate and offer mutual support at multilateralforums, particularly in 2020 when Vietnam assumes the role of ASEAN Chair.
Concludingthe dialogue, they signed a 2019-2021 cooperation agreement between the twodefence ministries.-VNA
