Hanoi (VNA)🀅 – The cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore in develop green-digital economy is a successful model, according to Asian media outlets.
Regarding the recent visit to Singapore by Party General Secretary To Lam from March 11-13, Singaporean content platform opengovasia.com ♔said Singapore is playing an active role in enhancing the Green-Digital Economic Partnership with Vietnam, with both nations seeking to collaborate across various sectors, including the digital economy, renewable energy and innovation.
The partnership represents a dynamic and promising collaboration that is benefiting both nations. By combining Singapore’s expertise in digital services and clean technology with Vietnam’s growing energy and IT sectors, both countries are positioning themselves for long-term sustainable growth.
As they work together to address the shared challenges of energy transition, digital transformation and innovation, the partnership is a model for successful international cooperation within ASEAN and beyond. In the context that Vietnam is entering a new stage of development, science, technology, and innovation are regarded as the main drivers of growth.
Pham Quang Cuong, a former Associate Professor at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and CEO of Eureka Robotics in Singapore, emphasised the importance of leveraging AI and automation for Vietnam's sustainable development.
He highlighted Vietnam's advantages of having a young and dynamic workforce, particularly talented AI software engineers, who can drive innovation and help Vietnam compete globally, even with limited capital. Despite the significant efforts made to accelerate digitalisation, Vietnam needs time, a strategic plan, and patience to fully integrate AI into production.
Reporting on Lam’s visit, opengovasia.com ✃noted that as Vietnam continues its journey into the digital era, cooperation in AI and technology with Singapore will play a crucial role in shaping the future of both countries. Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei reported that Singapore is becoming more involved in developing Vietnam's economy as global supply chain shifts make Southeast Asia a hot spot for industrial activity.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said as quoted in the report that industrial zones developed by Vietnam’s Becamex IDC and Sembcorp Industries, partially-owned by Singapore's state investor Temasek, have created good jobs and opportunities for both countries.
"In the uncertain global environment that we see today, it is even more critical for like-minded states like Singapore and Vietnam to work closely together," said Wong.
According to Nikkei, a simmering trade war between the world's two largest economies, the US and China, has prompted many companies with Chinese production bases to consider relocating from the mainland to Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam.
