The direction is highlighted in a draft on the strategy for developing Vietnam’s rice export market in the period 2016-2020 with a vision to 2030, which has been released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
According to the draft, from 2016, the export rice production will focus on long-grain white rice and high-quality rice with 5 to 10 percent of broken grains and reduce rice with more than 15 percent of broken grains.

Vietnam will have various advantages in exporting rice this year though it may have to compete with Thai rice in the global export market when Thailand sells rice at stock.
Local rice exporters have offered a higher export price due to price rise in the domestic market, thereby losing the advantage in the competitive world market, said experts.
The total agro-forestry-fishery export turnover in the first five months of this year is estimated to reach 12.18 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 4.9 percent.
