Vietnam exported 525,896 tonnes of rice to African markets in the first seven months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 52 percent and accounting for nearly 16 percent of the country’s total rice export volume. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Department of African, West Asian and South Asian Markets, major Vietnamese rice consumers include Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Algeria.
The department attributed the surge to the lower price of Vietnamese rice than those of Thailand and India. Meanwhile, in the Middle East market, Vietnam earned over 12 million USD from shipping 21,419 tonnes of rice to the United Arab Emirates, up 37 percent against the same period last year.-VNA
