Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Oct. 4 met with European and Asiancounterparts to seek ways to elevate bilateral ties in the economic andpolitic fields.
At these meetings, which took place separately on the sidelines of theon-going eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Brussels, Belgium, Luxembourg, Belgian, Dutch and Japanese Prime Ministers spoke highlyof Vietnam ’s economic achievements, referring especially to thecountry’s macro-economic stability.
They expressed their pleasewith developments in their respective countries’ relationship withVietnam and hoped to further deepen bilateral economic and trade tieswith the country.
These PMs said they expected Vietnam, as the current ASEAN Chair, to help promote their countries’ relationship with ASEAN.
ThePMs also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concernsas well as bilateral coordination at regional and multilateral forums.
During their meeting, PM Dung and Dutch Prime Minister JanPeter Balkenende signed an agreement on strategic partnership inresponse to climate change and State management.
PM Dunghighlighted the agreement for providing the grounds for Vietnam and theNetherlands to reinforce their cooperation in water resourcesmanagement, space planning and dyke construction and enable Vietnam tostep by step address changes caused by climate change and sea waterrising.
The Dutch PM said the two countries have cooperated wellnot only in dealing with climate change, but also in the fields ofinvestment, trade, development, education and training.
Whilemeeting with PM Dung, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker saidhis country regards Vietnam as a partner and a priority in itscooperation and development policy.
He affirmed that his countrywill maintain its aid to Vietnam in the 2011-2015 period, focusing onhealthcare, education and training and sustainable development and thatit wants to step up cooperation with Vietnam in air transportation andmetallurgy.
He pledged to receive Vietnamese students to study banking and finance in his country.
Meanwhile,Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme suggested that the Belgium-VietnamInter-governmental Committee for Economic Cooperation and Developmentwould soon meet to approve orientations for the two countries’cooperation in the 2011-2015 period.
He also suggested that thetwo countries beef up collaboration in the treatment of wastewater andhazardous wastes, seaport construction, cosmos aviation, and climatechange.
The Belgian PM said he will consider increasing scholarships for Vietnamese students.
Attheir meeting, PM Dung and his Japanese counterpart Naoto Kanhighly valued the enrichment of the two countries’ cooperation andfriendship in a wide range of fields.
They affirmed to continueto work closely to further strengthen and elevate the Vietnam-Japanstrategic partnership for the interests of their peoples, and for peace,stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
