Vietnam-RoK trade, cultural festival opens in HCM City

HCM City (VNA) – A culture andtrade exchange festival between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) officiallyopened in Ho Chi Minh City on December 1.

The event features a trade fair ofagricultural produce, cosmetics and medicine alongside a cultural festival.

Organised by the Korean province ofGyeongsangbuk and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the exchange programmesaw the participation of businesses from both countries.

Gyeongsangbuk’s deputy mayor Woo Byung Yoonsaid the event aims to boost mutual understanding, business partnerships andimport-export between the RoK and Vietnam.

Park Noh Wan, the RoK’s Consul General inHCM City, said the RoK considered Vietnam as a strategic partner in all fieldsfor mutual growth and benefits.

Meanwhile, Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman ofthe HCM City People’s Committee, noted that the RoK organised the largestnumber of economic and cultural exchange festivals in Vietnam this year as comparedto other countries.

Currently, there are about 4,500 Koreancompanies operating in Vietnam, with combined investment totaling 50 billionUSD.

Bilateral trade revenue is expected to hit40 billion USD in 2016, the highest figure ever recorded to date.-VNA

🉐 Vietnamese culture takes centre stage in Korean city

The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.

𝐆 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
