Vietnam responds to World Clean-up Day

Bac Ninh (VNA) - The Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment, in collaboration with the Vietnam Farmers' Union Central Committeeand Bac Ninh provincial People’s Committee, held a ceremony in Thuan Thuan town,on September 16 in response to the 2023 “Clean up the world” Campaign.

The 2023 “Clean up the world” Campaign is an opportunity for the whole socialcommunity to join hands to act for the environment and take responsibility forthe environment, from small but meaningful actions, thereby activelycontributing to building the future of the Earth, creating a clean environmentand maintaining ecological balance for the sustainable development of humanity.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the “Clean upthe world” Campaign was initiated by Australia and has been launched globallyby the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), since 1993.

To date, the Campaign has attracted the participation of millions of people andmore than 180 countries worldwide, becoming a worldwide community movement,contributing to raising public awareness and actions of all humanity towardsenvironmental issues.

Responding to the Campaign since 1994, Vietnam has always focused onpropagating guidelines and policies related to environmental protection andnatural resources, while calling on individuals, groups and communities to joinhands to take practical actions to reduce the burden on nature and theenvironment and adapt to climate change, towards promoting circular economy andsustainable development.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched actions in responseto the 2023 “Clean up the world” Campaign, to encourage community activitiesand movements to protect the environment, towards a green and circular economyand sustainable development. Vietnam pledges to effectively implement itscommitments on environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Central ExecutiveCommittee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union Dinh Khac Dinh asked ministries,departments and agencies, at all levels, to continue to launch communitymovements for environmental sanitation, tree planting, and improving theenvironment in urban areas, residential areas and surrounding areas, especiallyon lakes, rivers and canals.

He hoped that relevant agencies would strengthen the integration of contentsrelated to environmental protection in training programmes, as well as raisethe awareness, consciousness and responsibility of environmental protectionamong all citizens and businesses.

After the launch ceremony, more than 700 delegates and people from all walks oflife in the locality together collected waste to clean the environment andplant trees at the national historical and cultural relic site of Kinh DuongVuong temple and tomb complex./.

🤪 Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🧔 Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving trail of destruction

ಞ Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

♕ Hundreds of trees planted in Cuc Phuong National Park as part of Forestival

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
