Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s consistent policy isto protect and promote the basic rights of people, Spokeswoman of the Ministryof Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said during the ministry’s regular pressconference on September 22.
Hang made the statement in reply to reporters’ queries onVietnam's reaction to some international human rights organisations’controversial opinions about Vietnam's candidacy for the United Nations HumanRights Council (UNHRC) as they believe that the country's achievements in thisfield are poor and lack cooperation with the UNHRC.
“We completely reject the untruthful, unobjective contentswith bad prejudices that some international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have raised about thesituation in Vietnam,” she stressed.
Vietnam’s consistent policy of protecting and promotinghuman rights has been specified in the 2013 Constitution and many other legaldocuments, the spokesperson stated, adding that the country's efforts andachievements in the work have been recognised and appreciated by theinternational community.
Most recently, in March 2022, Vietnam published a voluntarymidterm report on the implementation of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) thirdcycle recommendations, which demonstrates the responsibility of a member state,as well as the transparency and seriousness of Vietnam towards the UPRmechanism in particular and in the implementation of international commitmentson human rights in general.
“Vietnam also actively shows the spirit of cooperation withthe special procedures of the UN Human Rights Council, and regularly maintainsa bilateral human rights dialogue mechanism with several countries, and iswilling to provide and exchange issues of mutual concern in the spirit offrankness, openness and mutual respect,” she added./.
