Vietnam records higher usage of patent software: BSA survey

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s rate ofunlicenced software installation was 74 percent in 2017, down by 4 percent from2015 and by 7 percent from 2013, according to the latest Global Software Surveyof The Software Alliance (BSA).

The survey, released this June, show thatin the Asia-Pacific region, Japan and New Zealand were the two countries withthe lowest software piracy rate of 16 percent, followed by Australia (18percent) and Singapore (27 percent).

In the region, countries with privacy rateshigher than Vietnam were Bangladesh at 84 percent, Indonesia and Pakistan at 83percent, and Sri Lanka at 77 percent.

The BSA survey estimated the volume andvalue of unlicensed software installed on personal computers across more than110 national and regional economies in 2017.

It also revealed key attitudes and behavioursrelated to software licensing, intellectual property, and emerging technologiesbased on a global survey of more than 20,000 respondents.

The results show that, although chiefinformation officers are aware of security risks from unlicensed software, 37percent of software installed on personal computers is still unlicensed.

The cost for dealing with malware that isassociated with unlicensed software is growing. It can now cost companiesworldwide nearly 359 billion USD a year.-VNA
