Hanoi (VNA) –
Vietnam always attachesimportance to promoting its friendship and strategic partnership withAustralia, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s EconomicCommission Nguyen Van Binh said at a reception for visiting AustralianMinister of Foreign Affairs Marise Payne in Hanoi on June 13.

Binh expressed his pleasure at the growingrelations between Vietnam and Australia in various fields including politics,economy, defence-security, and education-training.

He thanked the Australian government forsupporting Vietnam in the run for a non-permanent seat at the United NationsSecurity Council for 2020-2021.

The official highly appreciated Australia’s supportof Vietnam’s role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and proposedthat the two countries continue to coordinate closely at multilateral forumsfor peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Southeast Asian regionas well as in the East Sea.

For her part, Payne showed her delight at thestrong development of Vietnam-Australia relations over the past time,especially the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.

She hoped her ongoing visit to Vietnam and otherhigh-level visits from Australia will help promote the bilateral strategicpartnership in the future.

The FM affirmed that the new-term government ofAustralia will support the development of relations with Vietnam and wants tostrengthen coordination with the Southeast Asian country for peace, stabilityand prosperity in the region and the world.

Earlier the same day, Payne had a meeting withDirector of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang,during which she expressed her interest in collaborating to increase capacityof female leaders and affirmed that cooperation between the Vietnamese academyand the Australian government will bring practical benefits for both sides.-VNA
