Rome (VNA) – Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) José Graziano da Silva has applauded Vietnam’s acti💙ve participation and contributions to activities of the 🔯UN organisation.

The Director General made the appraisal while receiving Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the FAO, Ambassador Cao Chinh Thien who came to present his credentials to the FAO chief on December 11.
Vietnam’s achievements in agriculture and ensuring food security are impressive, he said. Vietnam boasts a strong contingent of experts in rice cultivation and aquaculture, he said, suggesting the Southeast Asian nation increase its exchange of experience in these fields with African nations within the South-South cooperation - a model designed for developing countries in the global South. Ambassador Thien affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s policy of heeding poverty reduction and agricultural and rural development.
The country has deployed relevant programmes amidst newly-emerging challenges such as climate change, global economic crisis and food price fluctuations, he said. The diplomat spoke highly the FAO’s cooperation and assistance to Vietnam over the past time, saying Vietnam backs the organisation and the Director General in the global fight against poverty. The two sides held that the UN organisation’s reform of technical cooperation methods will help raise the efficiency of its cooperation activities in this realm with partner countries, including Vietnam.-VNA
