Quang Nam (VNA) - The people of Vietnam in general and Hoi Anresidents in particular will never forget the priceless contributions made byPolish archaeologist and architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, known as ‘Kazik’, torestoring the ancient town, My Son Sanctuary and Complex of Hue Monuments.
Addressinga meeting held in Hoi An on March 17 to mark Kazik’s 20th death anniversary,local sculptor Pham Hong also said that the Polish architect’s work was crucialto the cultural sites and the city being recognised by UNESCO has WorldHeritage sites.
Hongbuilt a 2.5m tall statue of Kazik that stands at 138 Tran Phu Street.
PolishAmbassadress Barbara Szymanowska said, “We are also proud that ‘Kazik’, aPolish citizen, was involved in restoring Hoi An as a World Heritage recognisedby UNESCO.”
Onthe occasion, Polish writer Jacek Zygmunt Matuszak introduced a book,“Kazimierz Kwiatkowski (1944-1997) – Memory of a special man.”
Hesaid ‘Kazik’ was even more well-known in Vietnam rather than in Poland. It wasvery hard to find an article about the works and life of Kazik, so the Polishembassy took the initiative to publish the book, he said.
“Ihope that the book will help us remember him (Kazik), and his contribution torestoration of world heritages as well as the friendship between Vietnam andPoland,” he said, adding that the 187-page book is being published inVietnamese, Polish and English.

Hoi An ancient city, the central province of Quang Nam, plans to restore 80 ancient wells, most of them locate on the north bank of the De Vong River near the Thanh Ha pottery village.
Central coastal Quang Nam province's Hoi An City and Thai-owned Index Living Mall will jointly organise the Light Festival to welcome 2017, the Year of the Rooster.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
