Vietnam opposes Taiwan’s drills in Truong Sa archipelago

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam resolutely opposesChina’s Taiwan conducting a number of live-fire exercises in the waters areaaround Ba Binh island, which belongs to Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago.

Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Le Thi ThuHang made the assertion on May 26 in reply to reporters’ query on Vietnam’sreaction to the Taiwanese action.

“Vietnam has full historical evidence and legalgrounds to prove its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa(Spartly) archipelagos,” she said.

Taiwan’s organisation of drills in Ba Binh areain Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago is a serious violation of Vietnam’ssovereignty over the archipelago, threatening peace, stability, security, andsafety of navigation, as well as causing tensions and complicating thesituation in the East Sea, she added.

“Once again, Vietnam resolutely opposes anddemands Taiwan to not repeat similar activities,” she stressed.-VNA
