Vietnam, Namibia raise diplomatic, agricultural cooperation

The deals were reached during Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba’sState visit to Vietnam from November 18-20, which was described byPresident Truong Tan Sang as a momentum to bring bilateral ties to anew period of development in a deep and result-oriented way.

During their talks on November 19 in Hanoi , President Sang and hisNamibian counterpart agreed to continue speeding up joint agriculturalprojects with tri-party cooperation models by strengthening bilateralconnectivity and calling for the engagement of the private sector in thework.

The leaders agreed to bolster exchanges ofdelegations at all levels, strengthen people-to-people contacts andaccelerate the twinning of localities to further the mutualunderstanding of the two peoples.

Expressing theirdelight at the positive outcomes between the two countries over the pastyears, the two Presidents pledged that they will direct relevantministries and sectors to build specific plans to foster cooperationacross investment, trade, education and training, healthcare, tourism,and aviation transport services.

On this occasion,the Namibian leader officially announced his country’s recognition ofVietnam ’s full market economy regulations. He also invited PresidentTruong Tan Sang to visit his country at a suitable time, which wasaccepted with pleasure.

Congratulating Namibiaon the impressive development achievements, President Sang hailed thecountry’s positive contributions to peace, stability and cooperation inthe Southern African Development Community and in the continent as a whole.

Vietnam wants to expand ties with Africancountries, including Namibia, an intimate friend that has supportedVietnam in its past struggle for national independence as well as itscurrent national construction, President Sang confirmed.

He appreciated that Namibia recognises Vietnam ’s market economyregulations, saying that this is an important contribution to the soundtraditional relationship, reflecting deep mutual trust and support.

During the talks, the two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Vietnam congratulated Namibia for winning a seat in the UnitedNations Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 tenure. It committed toworking closely with the country at international and regional forumsand the South-South cooperation framework, contributing to building amore equal and democratic world for peace, stability, cooperation anddevelopment.-VNA
