Vietnam, Myanmar agree to boost wide-ranging ties

Yangon (VNA) – Vietnam and Myanmar have agreed to strengthen♌ cooperation across sectors following talks between Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Myanmar’s Vice President, Henry Van Thio, in Yangon, Myanmar on July 31.

Dam was in Yangon to attend the two-day forum on the issue of “Four Countries – One Destination” at the invitation of Van Thio. At their meeting, the two agreed to boost cooperation in politics, security and defence, trade and investment, agriculture, transport, tourism, banking and telecommunications.
They stressed the promotion of high-level visits and exchanges at all levels, improving the efficiency of existing cooperation mechanisms, such as the joint committee on bilateral cooperation, and increasing exchanges between culture and arts organisations to enhance understanding between the two peoples. Deputy PM Dam said that Vietnam has respected and appreciated the relationship and traditional friendship with Myanmar over 40 years and would strive to further develop bilateral relations. He asked Myanmar to continue to create favourable conditions and support Vietnamese enterprises, especially in the areas of banking, aviation, telecommunications, mining, tourism and agriculture. He expressed willingness to share experience with Myanmar in the fields of Vietnam’s strengths, such as planting and processing rubber, coffee and pepper for exports.
In response, the Myanmar Vice President expressed confidence that the friendly relations between Vietnam and Myanmar would grow rapidly, noting that Vietnam is now among his country’s top 10 trading and investment partners. The two sides also exchanged opinions on issues of regional and international interest; agreed to continue close cooperation in the framework of ASEAN in the region and internationally, promote ASEAN solidarity, maintain ASEAN’s central role in ensuring peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region. On the occasion, Deputy PM Dam conveyed Vietnamese leaders’ invitations to visit Vietnam to President Htin Kyaw and State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the President’s Office Aung San Suu Kyi.-VNA
