Vietnam - Mexico relations enter new phase with expanded cooperation space: seminar
The seminar discussed the journey in which Vietnam and Mexico became each other's leading partners in Southeast Asia and Latin America, as well as their potential for cooperation in the coming time.

Mexico City (VNA)⛎ – Vietnam - Mexico relations are entering a new phase, with great potential and expanded cooperation space, heard an online seminar held by the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) of Mexico on May 26.
The seminar discussed the journey in which Vietnam and Mexico became each other's leading partners in Southeast Asia and Latin America, as well as their potential for cooperation in the coming time.
It was the third seminar on Vietnam that the Mexican side has hosted on the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam - Mexico diplomatic relations (May 19, 1975 - 2025), and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification of Vietnam.
Speaking at the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai emphasised that Mexico’s establishment of diplomatic relations with Vietnam less than three weeks after the victory on April 30, 1975 was not only a political decision, but also a testament to the spirit of international solidarity, sympathy and solidarity between the two peoples who share the core values of love for peace, independence, freedom and tolerance.
Over the past half century, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Mexico has been developed and nurtured on the foundation of friendship, cooperation and mutual support. Thus, their cooperative relations have been continuously expanded and achieved many positive results in many fields, especially in politics, economy and culture.

Meanwhile, speaking from Hanoi, Mexican Ambassador to Vietnam Alejandro Negrín affirmed that the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations is a time for the two countries to look back on the 50-year journey and develop plans to consolidate and enhance their friendship in the coming time.
Negrín said that this is even more meaningful as Mexico is strengthening relations with the Asia-Pacific region, including ASEAN of which Vietnam is one of the key members.
In addition, the Vietnam-Mexico relationship is witnessing opportunities to continue to develop, especially in bilateral trade as both are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). With an average annual growth of 10-15%, their bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reached more than 14 billion USD, up 27.5% compared to 2023. Mexico is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Latin America, while Vietnam is Mexico's second largest trading partner in ASEAN.
Attending the seminar, experts and scholars agreed that as a remarkable socio-economic development model in Asia, with rapid growth and socio-political stability, Vietnam is a potential partner of Mexico in diversifying its markets, thereby helping to reduce dependence on other major economies./.
According to the ambassador, the outstanding achievements in bilateral cooperation will be a solid foundation for the bilateral relationship to take off in the coming time.
The Mexico - Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group has been instrumental in advancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, as well as broader ties across various potential fields, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai.
