Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam reported 11,594 new COVID-19 cases on February4.

The totalnumber of infections nationwide since the start of the pandemic isnow 2,315,689.

Among the newtransmissions, there were 7,062 detected in the community and eight importedcases that were quarantined upon arrival.

The capitalcity of Hanoi still topped the list with 2,756 cases followed by Da Nang with1,544 (over two days), and Nam Dinh with 620.

Eighty-fourdeaths were reported on the same day, bringing the COVID death tollto 38,147 cases, about 1.6 percent of total infections.

There are2,213 COVID-19 patients nationwide in serious condition, with 305requiring invasive ventilation and 13 on life support.

Afurther 8,509 patients were given the all-clear, bringing the totalnumber of recoveries to 2,102,456. 

Morethan 74 million people in Vietnam have now been fully inoculated;while around 79 million people have received at least one dose of vaccine.

Almost 28million people have been boosted with a third dose./.

🍸 Sharp tobacco tax hike urged to safeguard youths, community health

A 2023 report by the Vietnam Health Economics Association estimated that the total cost of tobacco-related healthcare and economic losses reached 108 trillion VND (4.14 billion USD) annually – equivalent to 1.14% of GDP and five times higher than the budget revenue generated by the tobacco industry.

𝕴 Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
