Vietnam-Laos Friendship, Solidarity Year 2017 concludes with success

Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang and General Secretary of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachithjointly hosted a press conference in Hanoi on December 20 to announce theconclusion of the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year2017.
The year of 2017 issignificant for Vietnam and Laos, as the two countries celebrate the 55thanniversary of their diplomatic relations and 40 years of the Treaty onFriendship and Cooperation, noted President Tran Dai Quang.
Along with the organisationof hundreds of activities, the two sides have exchanged 300 delegations at alllevels, while working together in effectively implementing signed agreementsand cooperation programmes and plans, thus lifting ties to a new height, hesaid.
He reviewed majorcelebration activities held during the year in both countries, including ayouth friendship meeting and a programme on following footprints of Vietnameseand Lao leaders from October 30 to November 4 in Laos and from November 5-11 inVietnam, which helped educate the two countries’ youngsters on the specialsolidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
The Vietnamese leaderaffirmed that the whole year of 2017 is a shared festival of the two nations, asuccess and a milestone in the Vietnam-Laos relations.
Sharing President TranDai Quang’s opinions, Bounnhang Vorachith said that the special relationshipbetween Laos and Vietnam, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and PresidentKaysone Phomvihane and nurtured by many generations of leaders of bothcountries, is a priceless treasure of both peoples, and a decisive factor for thesuccess of the revolutionary cause of both nations.
Vietnamese and Laopeople can be proud of the steadiness and growth of the ties amidst thechanging world and regional situations.
He stressed the needfor people, especially youngsters of the two countries to be highly aware of theirresponsibility in preserving and developing the great friendship, specialsolidarity and comprehensive between Laos and Vietnam.
He affirmed that theParty, State and people of Laos will coordinate closely with the Vietnameseside to protect ties with Vietnam, which he described as an unlimited strength pushingthe two countries to socialism.-VNA
The special relations between Vietnamese and Lao Parties and States hold the strategic meaning to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the respective countries as well as in the region and around the world.

Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane affirmed that the presence of Vietnamese press offices in Laos vividly demonstrates the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, as the press is not only a means of communication but also an important bridge for spreading consciousness about the history, values, and strategic depth of the Laos – Vietnam relationship to the people of both countries and the international community.
The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
