Hanoi (VNA)💛 – The 42nd UOB Southeast AsianPainting of the Year competition (national round) was kicked off in Hanoi onMay 9.

The organising board has called for artists from five Southeast Asiancountries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam toparticipate in the competition initiated by Singapore’s United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB). Luong Xuan Doan, chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and head of the jury, said that the jury will evaluate the entries based on criteria such as beauty of the national cultural identity, value of new messages, creativity, and new expression techniques. The top winner of the competition in Vietnam will get acash prize worth 500 million VND (21,300 USD) and a chance to compete inthe regional round. The programme identity design for this year contest wasinspired by the last year’s winning work, “Dystopia” by Thai artist ChomrawiSuksom. The winning works of the national round will beannounced and displayed at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City in October. Submissions are open fromMay 9 to August 6./.

♑ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
