Vietnam, Jordan seek ways to bolster cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs Pham Quang Hieu paid a visit to Jordan from December 7-8 to consolidateand foster cooperation between Vietnam and the Middle East nation.

While in Jordan, the Deputy FM held talks withSecretary General of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates LeenaAl-Hadid, and had working sessions with Secretary General of the Ministry ofIndustry, Trade, and Supply Dana Al-Zoubi and Secretary General of the Ministryof Investment Zaher Al-Qatarneh.

At the meetings, the two sides noted with pleasure the positivedevelopment of the bilateral ties.

Hieu spoke highly of the phone talks between the twoforeign ministers last June and thanked Jordan for its timely support toVietnamese victims in the toxic gas leak at Aqaba port in the month, suggestingthe Jordanian Government continue creating conditions for Vietnamese citizens tolive and work in the country.

The two sides said despite global economicchallenges, two-way trade still reached 178 million USD last year, up 18%from 2020.

However, they noted, the result has yet to match thepotential of the two economies that are supplementary to each other and still have ample room togrow further.

Welcoming Hieu’s visit, Al-Hadid stressed that Jordanattaches importance and wishes to enhance the friendship and cooperation withVietnam.

The host and guest agreed on measures to raise theefficiency of the bilateral collaboration in the time ahead, such as promoting all-leveldelegation exchange and people-to-people diplomacy, stepping up cooperation, informationsharing and coordination between ministries and agencies, encouragingbusinesses to enhance trade and investment links, and considering thepossibility of signing a number of cooperation agreements to perfect the legalframework for the bilateral ties.

Vietnam suggested Jordan share its experience with andhelp the Southeast Asian nation in the Halal industry, and forge tourismcooperation.

The officials expressed their belief that on thebasis of the good friendship, cooperation and potential, the Vietnam-Jordanrelationship will grow stronger in the time ahead.

They used this occasion to exchange views on some regionaland international of shared concern.

Earlier, within his trip to Turkey, Hieu,who is also Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs,met with representatives of the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnamesecommunity in Turkey. /.
