Vietnam joins Seafood Expo Global in Spain

Hanoi (VNA) –Vietnamese seafood are being introduced at the Seafood Expo Global that isunderway in Barcelona, Spain from April 25-27.

The exhibition, one ofthe largest of its kind in Europe and the world, draws over 1,550 exhibitorsfrom 76 countries.

According to theVietnam Association of Seafood Producers and Exporters (VASEP), Vietnam hasjoined 20 editions of the exhibition. This year, Vietnam sends 38 fisheriesfirms to the event, doubling last years’ number.

Along with majorproducts such as tra fish and shrimps, Vietnamese businesses also brought intensivelyprocessed products, including ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook products to theexhibition to catch up with consumers’ trend.

The association alsoorganises performances of cooking dishes from tra fish, shrimps, tuna and otherseafood with the theme of “heathy convenience” by Vietnamese chefs.

The association heldthat this is a good chance for Vietnam to promote high added value products andseek partners.

VASEP data showed thatin the first quarter of this year, aquatic exports dropped 27% year on year toonly 1.8 billion USD, with downturn recorded in the majority of products. Theassociation expects the sector to recover from the third quarter of this year.

Along with producingmore products with higher added values to export to the EU, the Republic ofKorea, Japan, Australia and the US, Vietnam is targeting small and potential marketssuch as those in the Middle East and ASEAN.

The VASEP assertedthat joining international trade fairs will help Vietnamese firms evaluate themarket to shape their production and export strategy for the 2023-2024period./.
