Vietnam has committed to joining international efforts in combating the financing of terrorists, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN said at the UNSC’s open debate on March 28.

New York (VNA) – Vietnam has committed to joining internationalefforts in combating the financing of terrorists, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Missionto the UN said at the UN Security Council (UNSC)’s open debate on March 28.
The Vietnamese diplomat spoke highly of the debate which took place amid aspate of bloody terror attacks in recent times, with ever more complex forms ofterrorist financing.
He underlined the importance of implementing the obligations for counteringterrorist financing as laid out in current resolutions of the council, sayingthe newly adopted text on preventing terrorism financing serves as a crucialgap filler and a timely response to remaining challenges.
He called on countries to enhance action coordination and information exchange,and support one another to improve anti-terrorism capacity.
He also stressed the role of the banking sector and competent parties inidentifying dubious transactions, revealing terrorist financing, sharingVietnam’s experience in completing legal frameworks in line with the UNSC’sresolutions.
He noted that Vietnam has become a member of various bilateral and multilateraltreaties on terrorism prevention, and was strongly committed to carrying out recommendationsby the UNSC’s Financial Action Taks Force and ASEAN’s initiative onanti-terrorism and extreme violence.
At the event, Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the UNOffice of Counter-Terrorism, said the resolution is a comprehensive and multidimensionalapproach to keep national and international financial systems and institutionsproperly safeguarded from being abused by terrorists.
He also called on member states to make national experts available to UNprogrammes on countering terrorist financing, alongside significant financialsupport to build capacity.
Participantsvoiced their concerns over the complex terrorist financing while affirmingmissions of the member states in finalising institutions and measures tocounter new challenges.-VNA

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
