Vietnam - Japan teenager ambassador exchange opens in Japan

An exchange of Vietnam-Japan teenager ambassadors took place in Japan on January 17, gathering 32 high school students from both countries.

Tokyo (VNA) – An exchange ofVietnam-Japan teenager ambassadors took place in Japan on January 17, gathering16 Vietnamese students from the Viet Duc (Vietnam-Germany) High School in Hanoiand 16 Japanese students from the Yokkaichi City high school in Mie prefecture.

The event was co-organised by the AEON 1%Club Foundation and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan. This was the thirdedition, after the first and the second held in 2007 and 2013.

Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Charged’Affaires in Japan Nguyen Truong Son acknowledged AEON’s contributions to the Vietnam– Japan ties as well as to the development of Vietnam.

He expected the young participants toenhance mutual understanding and help strengthen friendship between the twonations.

Starting in 1990, the AEON 1% ClubFoundation’s Teenage Ambassadors programme is an exchange programme for highschool students in Japan and foreign countries. It aims to provide studentswith opportunities to deepen their understanding of each other's histories andcultures and form friendships, via activities like courtesy visits to embassiesand cultural heritage sites, attendance of school lectures, and homestays.

Founded in 1989, the AEON 1% ClubFoundation has been operating based on 1% of the group’s pre-tax profits. InVietnam, the foundation helped establish a scholarship fund for universitystudents, build 30 primary schools in Hue, and carried out a tree plantingprojects in Hanoi and Hue.-VNA
