Vietnam, Japan should accelerate implementation of ODA projects: Deputy PM

Hanoi (VNA) – Permanent Deputy PrimeMinister Pham Binh Minh on August 23 said he supports Vietnamese agencies and theJapan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to hold regular meetings, seekingsolutions to obstacles to ODA projects in Vietnam.
At a reception for JICA Executive Senior VicePresident Junichi Yamada in Hanoi, Minh noted with pleasure the strong developmentsof the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.
Japan is always Vietnam’s leading strategic partner in ODA, accounting for 30%of the about 29.3 billion USD committed by foreign investors for the SoutheastAsian nation, he continued.
Minh thanked the JapaneseGovernment and people for their assistance over the past nearly three decades which has significantly contributed to spurring socio-economic development inVietnam.

He also lauded the role and contributions by JICAand Yamada himself in the implementation of ODA projects in Vietnam, and calledon Japan to continue with this kind of assistance, especially new-generationODA, as agreed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Japanese counterpart KishidaFumio.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance has held workingsessions with the Japanese Embassy to seek loans from the Japanese Governmentfor the socio-economic recovery and development programme in Vietnam, with afocus on strategic infrastructure, transport infrastructure, digitaltransformation, climate change response, and health care, Minh said, asking theministry to closely coordinate with JICA in the effort./.
Various activities, including cultural shows, exhibitions, sport events and seminars, are underway as part of the Vietnam – Japan Festival 2022 which is taking place in the central city of Da Nang until July 17.
