Vietnam, Japan agree to step up security cooperation

Vietnamese and Japanese officials have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security issues between the two countries as well as in regional and world security matters.

Tokyo (VNA) – Vietnameseand Japanese officials have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security issuesbetween the two countries as well as in regional and world security matters.

The consensus was reached at a meetingbetween Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. To Lam and HachiroOkonogi, Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission of Japan, which tookplace on the sidelines of President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to the EastAsian country.

The two sides reviewed Vietnam-Japancooperation in law enforcement, noting that the Vietnam Ministry of PublicSecurity had sustained regular links with relevant Japanese agencies.

Since 2013, Vietnam and Japan havetaken turns holding five deputy ministerial-level security dialogues, creatingan effective cooperative channel and contributing to the growth of thebilateral ties.

The Vietnamese Ministry of PublicSecurity and the Japanese National Public Safety Commission have cooperated indifferent fields such as exchanging information, dealing with regionalsecurity, investigating transnational crimes, and ensuring safety for citizensof both nations.

The same day, Minister To Lam hada working session with Shunichi Kuryu, Commissioner General of the National PoliceAgency of Japan.

They discussed a training projectbetween the two agencies to enhance capacity in ensuring cyber security andpreventing crimes.

The officials also touched on increasingthe exchange of experts in specific areas in the coming time to maintainnational security and social order and safety in both countries.-VNA
