Vietnam, India seek to promote fishery cooperation

Enhancing fishery cooperation between Vietnam and India was the theme of the opening session of the online fisheries expo and conference which is taking place with the theme of 'FISH MART' from November 24 to 30.

Hanoi (VNA) – Enhancing fishery cooperation between Vietnam and India wasthe theme of the opening session of the online fisheries expo and conference which is taking placewith the theme of 'FISH MART' from November24 to 30.

Addressingthe event, which is organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Aditya Dash, a representativeof CII said as one of Vietnam'smajor suppliers of raw seafood materials, Indian businesses are keen to sharetheir experience with Vietnamese counterparts to develop the seafood industrywhile Vietnamese businesses are being encouraged to invest in the aquacultureand seafood processing sector in India.

Le Hang, arepresentative of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers(VASEP), briefed participants on the Vietnamese aquatic industry, along withprospects of Vietnam-India cooperation in the field.

According to Hang, Vietnam has so far exported seafoodproducts to 160 foreign markets globally, ▨with revenue reaching between 8 and 9billion USD peryeaᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚr.

During the first nine monthsof this year, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation grossed approximately 6 billion USD from exporting aquatic products. At present, India is a major supplier of raw seafood material for Vietnam. During thenine-month period, Vietnam imported 188 million USD worth of seafood products from India, posting a year-on yearincrease of 26 percent and accounting for some 15 percent of the nation’s total seafood import turnover. In the framework ofthe event, the trade office under the Vietnamese Embassy in India will hod aVietnam booth and an online business matching event for Vietnamese enterpriseson November 27./.
