Vietnam in same group with Thailand, Malaysia, RoK at AFC U23 Asian Cup final round

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam have been drawn in Group C at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Championship final round following the draw results in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on February 17 (Hanoi time).
According to the Vietnam Football Federation, Vietnam will be in the same group with other two Southeast Asian teams of Thailand and Malaysia, along with the Republic of Korea, the 2020 champion.
The final round of the AFC U23 Asian Championship 2022 will see the competition of 16 teams which are divided into four groups. Eight teams that are group winners and runners-up will advance to the quarterfinals.
In the qualifying round, the U23 Vietnam team won all two matches to win a ticket to the final round. This is also the fourth time in a row that the U23 Vietnam team have entered the final round. The team played the final game of the championship in 2018.
The final round of the AFC U23 Asian Championship 2022 will take place in Uzbekistan from June 1-19./.
Dinh The Nam will take charge of Vietnam’s U23 team at the 2022 U23 AFF Cup in Cambodia, replacing Park Hang-seo to allow the Korean more time to focus on the national team.
Defending champions Indonesia on February 11 announced their withdrawal from the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U23 Youth Championship slated for February 14-26 in Cambodia.
Vietnam takes part in the AFF U23 Championship fielding their younger, under 21 squad, but still aim for the highest possible finish at the tournament in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.

The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.
