Vietnam, Hungary supreme courts sign MoU

The Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and Supreme Court of Hungary (Curia) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation for 2018-2022 in Budapest on March 26.

Prague (VNA) – The SupremePeople’s Court of Vietnam and Supreme Court of Hungary (Curia) signed aMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation for 2018-2022 inBudapest on March 26.

The signing ceremony took place followingtalks between Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen HoaBinh and President of the Curia Peter Darak.

Under the MoU, both sides will conducttechnical cooperation programmes in judicial affairs to improve their courtsystems and litigation procedures, contributing to raising mutual understandingabout law, legal culture, common international standards, capacity enhancementand dealing with emerging issues.

Technical support among judges,administrative and court staff will be prioritised.

During their talks, Binh informed his hostabout Vietnam’s renewal process, legal system and the apparatus of the SupremePeople’s Court of Vietnam.

Darak, for his part, lauded the mutually-beneficialties between the two supreme people’s courts since 2012, noting that theirrelationship is grounded in the traditional friendship between the two nations.

The host shared experience in adopting ITinto court hearings, personnel training, information and communications work.

Underscoring the significance of the MoU,Binh said the document is the result of practical discussions about severalissues, such as building e-courts and a set of criteria on the moral virtues ofchief judges.

The same day, Binh met with permanent ViceChief Judge of the Court of Budapest Gyula Toth.

Toth informed the Vietnamese guest about thestructure and activities of the Court of Budapest.

The Court of Budapest is the largestprovincial-level court in Hungary and Europe with 2,700 staff and more than 700judges. Each year, it brings to court 500 criminal cases and hearsfirst-instance and second-instance trials for more than 10,000 and 4,000 civilcases, respectively.-VNA
