Hanoi (VNA) – A regional training workshop onpublic weather services opened in Hanoi on March 27 for countries participatingin the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO)’s Severe Weather ForecastingDemonstration Project (SWFDP).
The workshop aimed to discuss the system for deliveringweather reports and coordination mechanism between nationalhydro-meteorological agencies and communication, risk management authorities inWMO member states. It also provided training on effective weather forecastingand warning for the public and on how to communicate with the media andevaluate public feedback.
It introduced forecasting products and financialcooperation with the SWFDP and provided guidelines to develop an online weatherservice portal. It also saw delegates exchanging views on management ofdisaster risk reduction in Vietnam
Ata Husain, a WMO representative, said the workshop willshare knowledge and experience in training for WMO colleagues in an attempt toimprove quality of national forecast services in Vietnam.
