Havana (VNA) – Defence Deputy Minister, Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh hasaffirmed that Vietnam hopes to step up defence relations with Cuba ascooperation in this field is an important pillar in the bilateral ties.

Meeting with First Secretaryof the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, General Raul Castro inHavana on May 8, Vinh firther said that the bilateral defence ties have been bolsteredin a practical manner over the past time, contributing to regional and globalpeace as well as improving defence capacity in each nation.

The cooperation has been intensified in various sectors like militaryeducation-training, military healthcare, and defence industry, he stressed,adding that both defence ministries are implementing a dossier on the 60-yearhistory of Vietnam-Cuba defence partnership to popularise the friendship andsolidarity between the two countries and defence ministries in particular.

Raul, for his part, spoke highly of the bilateral defence collaboration,recommending that both sides further cooperation to better their defencecapacity, helping safeguard peace and build prosperous nations.

He said he strongly supports the establishment of a dossier highlightingVietnam-Cuba defence ties in the past six decades.

Vinh was leading adelegation of the Defence Ministry to make an official visit to Cuba from May4-8. On May 6, the Vietnamesedelegation had a defence policy dialogue with the Ministry of the RevolutionaryArmed Forces of Cuba.-VNA
