Phnom Penh (VNA) – Vietnamese people have lost a great leader and Cambodia has lost agood friend in the passing of President Tran Dai Quang, wrote acting head ofState and President of the Senate of Cambodia Samdech Say Chhum in a book ofcondolences on September 26.
He extended hisdeepest sympathy to the family of President Tran Dai Quang, the Government, theNational Assembly (NA), and people of Vietnam, noting that the President’sprestige and achievements will remain forever.
Samdech Say Chhum ledthe delegation of the Cambodia State to pay tribute to the Vietnamese leader ata memorial service held by the Embassy of Vietnam in Phnom Penh.
Several delegations ofCambodian also came to the embassy to pay homage to President Tran Dai Quang,including a delegation of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) led by CPPHonorary Chairman and National Assembly Chairman Samdech Heng Samrin; adelegation of the Senate’s Commission for Education, Youth, Sports, Cults,Culture, and Tourism led by the commission’s chairman Mom Chim Huy; adelegation of the National Assembly led by First Vice President of the NA NguonNhil; and a delegation of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Developmentled by Deputy Prime Minister Yim Chhaily.
Earlier the same day,the Ambassadors of Laos, China, Japan, and Russia and representatives from ASEANmember states’ embassies also paid homage to the President alongside Vietnamesenationals and living and studying in Cambodia.
On the same day, CambodianPrime Minister Samdech Hun Sen led a high-level delegation to Vietnam to pay thelast respects to President Tran Dai Quang. He was accompanied by Deputy PrimeMinister and Minister of Interior Affairs Samdech Sar Kheng and Deputy PrimeMinister and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection MenSam An.
President Quang passedaway at 10:05am on September 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62.
His state funeralbegan at 7:00am on September 26 at the National Funeral Hall, on 5 Tran ThanhTong, Hanoi.
The memorial service will begin at 7:30am on September 27 at the NationalFuneral Hall. The burial ceremony will later take place from 3:30pm in thePresident's native land in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binhprovince. –VNA
