Vietnam has four new ASEAN Heritage Parks

Four more protected areas in Vietnam have been recognised as ASEAN Heritage Parks, making the country home to the largest number of such parks in the region.

Lam Dong (VNA)– Four more protected areas in Vietnam have been recognised as ASEAN HeritageParks, making the country home to the largest number of such parks in theregion.

The newly designated sites are Bidoup – Nui BaNational Park in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong; Vu Quang NationalPark, which is located between Pu Mat National Park of Nghe An province andPhong Nha – Ke Bang National Park of Quang Binh province in the central region;Lo Go – Xa Mat National Park in the southern province of Tay Ninh; and NgocLinh Nature Reserve in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.

The certificates were presented at a ceremonyheld in Lam Dong’s Da Lat city on December 10.

Addressing the event, Director of the VietnamEnvironment Administration Nguyen Van Tai said the ASEAN Heritage Parksprogramme, carried out since 2003, aims to conserve biodiversity in the areasof regional and international importance, help improve public awareness of theenvironment, and demonstrate the ASEAN people’s aspiration for natureconservation and sustainable development.

At the 15th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on theEnvironment last October, the four parks of Vietnam were recognised, raisingthe ASEAN Heritage Parks in the country to 10 – the largest number in theregion, he added.

The other sites in Vietnam are Ba Be, Kon KaKinh, Chu Mom Ray, Hoang Lien, U Minh Thuong, and Bai Tu Long national parks./.

Vietnam ramps up pla🗹s𝐆tic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
