Vietnam fulfills role of ASEAN Committee’s Chair in Spain
ASEAN nations’ representatives in Spain have highly appreciated the diversity and quality of activities organised by the Embassy of Vietnam in the position of Chair of ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM).

Madrid (VNA) – ASEAN nations’representatives in Spain have highly appreciated the diversity and quality ofactivities organised by the Embassy of Vietnam in the position of Chair ofASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM).
Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Tien Dung presidedover a regular meeting of the ACM in Madrid on July 3, comprising Malaysia,Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam, to review the committee’sperformance in the first six months of 2019 and hand over the ACM Chairmanshipto the Indonesian Embassy.
He said the Vietnamese embassy hosted variousactivities in January – June to promote connection between ASEAN countries inMadrid and Spanish authorities.
The embassy worked with the ASEAN – Spainbusiness association and held a workshop to promote ASEAN trade and investmentin Bilbao as well as a conference to boost the teaching of subjects onSoutheast Asian countries at universities in Malaga, he added.
It also held activities to strengthen intra-blocsolidarity, Dung said, adding that the embassy will continue coordinating withthe Indonesian embassy to hold more activities within the framework of the ACM.

Measures to strengthen economic ties and trade-investment integration are on the table at the 49th Meeting of the ASEAN Economic Ministers, which opened in Manila, the Philippines on September 7.
Officials of the ASEAN countries discussed ways to enhance infrastructure connectivity and development in the region at meetings held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 14 and 15.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dung on January 30 chaired the first regular meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) in 2019 after Vietnam has been assuming the ACM Chair since January 1.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
