Vietnam female footballers have more chance to compete in Asian Cup

The national women’s team of Vietnam have hope of competing at the Asian Cup following the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s Women's Football Committee decision to expand the tournament in 2022.

Hanoi (VNA) – The national women’s team of Vietnam have hope ofcompeting at the Asian Cup following the Asian Football Confederation(AFC)’s Women's Football Committee decision to expand the tournamentin 2022.

The 2022 AFC event will have 12 teams instead of eight, giving Vietnam abigger chance to take part in the event.

The AFC’s decision to increase the number of teamsfollows FIFA's decision to raise the number of teams participating inthe FIFA Women’s World Cup from 24 to 32 teams in 2023.

At that time, Asia will have eight slots to compete in the world’s biggest footballevent, and also opens the door for Vietnam after missing out in 2015 when theylost a qualifying play-off match 2-1 to Thailand.

On February 19, India was chosen to host the AFC Women's AsianCup 2022. Teams will play in three groups of four. The matches will take place in Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Goa.

At present, the Vietnamese women’s team are training in Hanoi to prepare forthe play-off round for the AFC Women's Olympic QualificationTournament with Australia next month./.
