Vietnam enhances ties with Canada’s Quebec province
Vietnam and Canada’s Quebec province hold special relations, but the two sides should further step up cooperation in specific areas to deepen these ties, a senior official has said.

Ottawa (VNA) – Vietnam and Canada’s Quebec province hold specialrelations, but the two sides should further step up cooperation in specificareas to deepen these ties, a senior official has said.
Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and TourismNguyen Ngoc Thien made the remarks at a working session in Montreal city onSeptember 14 with Quebec’s Minister of International Relations and LaFrancophonie Christine St-Pierre.
At the meeting, the two officials discussed measuresto boost bilateral collaboration in conformity with their real situation and demands.
Thien expressed his hope that the two sides willstep up cooperation in all fields, especially in culture through art andcinematographic exchange programmes, the joint participation in film festivals,and the sending of Vietnamese students majoring in culture to Quebec.
Sharing the same view, St-Pierre said that Quebec isinterested in cooperation in culture and museum and the province has recentlyissued a new policy related to culture.
According to her, through this policy, Quebec notonly wants to create a space for cultural activities, but also wants to expanda network of representative offices in other countries, including Vietnam.
On the same day, Thien had a meeting with ChiefExecutive Officer of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ)Gean-Louis Roy to learn about BAnQ’s operation model and its experience inmaintaining reading culture in the fourth industrial revolution.
Roy shared that, to attract young people in thefourth industrial revolution, new technology should be applied in library andarchives work and books suitable to their ages should be added.
Thien has been on a working visit to Canada fromSeptember 11-17, on the occasion of the Vietnam Culture Week in Canada. This isthe first time the Vietnam Culture Week has been organised in Canada to markthe 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties, with a string ofactivities such as art performances, film screening and tourism promotionprogammes.-VNA
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Quebec on June 8 morning (local time) to attend the Group of Seven (G7) Outreach Summit and visit Canada.
Several memoranda of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in different fields were inked between Vietnam and Canada in the presence of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the two countries’ business roundtable in Quebec on June 8 (Canada time).
