Vietnam elected as vice chair of UNCTAD intergovernmental expert group’s meeting
Vietnamese Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai has been elected as vice chairperson and rapporteur of a meeting of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.

Hanoi (VNA) – 🅠Vietnamese Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai has been elected as vice chairperson and rapporteur of a meeting of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.
Mai, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other international organisations in Geneva, served as vice chair of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy virtually held on July 5 – 6.
Delegates to the meeting exchanged views on the implementation of the UN’s guidelines on Consumer Protection Law and Policy and discussed challenges facing consumer protection authorities in developing countries amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also discussed post-pandemic economic recovery, and how to strengthen the UNCTAD’s role in supporting consumer protection authorities and to step up cooperation among countries in this area.
The UNCTAD working group on voluntary peer review exercises delivered a report assessing Chile’s consumer protection law and policy. Similar reports have also been done for Peru, Indonesia and Morocco./.
Ambassadors from G77 and China to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva had an online meeting with Isabelle Durant, new Acting Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to exchange their viewpoints and show their priorities and expectations to the UNCTAD ahead of its 15th session, slated for October in Barbados.
Vietnam treasures and backs the role of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in supporting developing countries, including Vietnam, to boost trade and sustainable development, especially to reduce impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and improve capacity towards green and sustainable recovery.

Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. At the conference, participants reported that the Government has so far issued 28 decrees on the delegation of responsibilities and powers between the central Government and two-tier local administrations. Several localities have already piloted the new governance model.

Under the official dispatch signed on June 20, ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, and chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees are requested to concentrate efforts on implementing core measures to ensure the smooth operations of the new administrative framework.

In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
