Vietnam develops intellectual property programme

The significant role of intellectual property in the country’s socio-economic development was highlighted at a seminar in Hanoi on May 7.

At the seminar, domestic and foreign expertsfrom Canada, Kenya and the World Intellectual PropertyOrganisation (WIPO) discussed the building and implementation of anational intellectual property programme.

Theparticipants stressed the need to identify goals, establish anational-level cooperation mechanism, as well as evaluate humanresources as well as competitive edges of each country.

The programme aims to map out a plan on innovation cooperation, thepossession and exploitation of research outcomes, initiatives and newtechnologies, they said.

Vietnam’s draft programmehas been devised with the support of the WIPO, focusing on theenhancement of intellectual property policies and frameworks, raisingpublic awareness of brands, copyright and other intellectual propertyrights.

The programme also aims to improve capacity to enforce the intellectual property rights of those concerned.-VNA
