Geneva (VNA)▨ – The Vietnam delegation had engaged productively in discussions, resolutions and decisions of the month-long 31st regular meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which wrapped up in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 24.

Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, head of the Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, delivered speeches conveying Vietnam’s message that the UNHRC should make efforts to step up constructive cooperation and dialogue, and seek appropriate solutions to disagreements and avoid being politicalised.
Vietnam directly sponsored resolutions on the enforcement of economic and socio-cultural rights, cultural and cultural diversity rights, the right to food and the right to work, which were approved by the council with high consensus. On behalf of the Core Group on Climate Change, Thanh chaired a high-level discussion on climate change and the right to health and a sidelines discussion on working environment for the disabled. During the 31st session from February 29 to March 24, the UNHRC adopted 40 resolutions, decisions, and a Presidential Declaration.
They included 26 bills related to numerous issues of international concern, including the implementation of economic and socio-cultural rights, the rights to work and food, cultural and cultural diversity rights, as well as those related to migration, terrorism, and humanitarian crises. The 47 council members voted for approval of 14 other bills, including those on the situation in Syria, Iran and occupied Palestine territorial areas. The council’s next meeting is scheduled for June 13-July 1, in Geneva.-VNA
