Vietnam defeat Colombia in World Chess Olympiad

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s men’s team defeated Colombia 3.5-0.5 in the second match at the ongoing 42nd World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Former world blitz chess champion Le Quang Liem, who has an Elo rating of 2723, tied with Arenas David (Elo 2490).

Meanwhile, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2633) beat Rios Cristhian Camilo (Elo 2489) and Huynh Minh Huy (Elo 2435) won over Escobar Forero Alder (Elo 2510).

Of note, 14-year-old Nguyen Anh Khoi (Elo 2448) defeated Barrientos Sergio, 30, (Elo 2465).

Vietnam had seven points after two matches, to temporarily rank 21 out of 150 teams.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s women’s team also defeated Bangladesh 3-1 to rank 14th out of 140 teams.

Hoang Thi Bao Tram (Elo 2325) lost to Sultana Sharmin Shirin (Elo 2002) and Pham Le Thao Nguyen (Elo 2338) beat Shamima Akter Liza (Elo 2129).

Also, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (Elo 2316) defeated Khan Nazrana (Elo 1965) and Nguyen Thi Thanh An (Elo 2249) crushed Hamid Rani (Elo 1993).

🐲 In the next match, the Vietnamese men’s team will meet the Netherlands, and the women’s team will play China.-VNA
