Educational cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic was the focus of a seminar held in Prague on January 12.

Hanoi (VNA)♎ – Educationalcooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic was the focus of a seminar heldin Prague on January 12. 

Vietnamese Ambassador to the CzechRepublic Truong Manh Son said the Czech Republic has trained more than 10,000Vietnamese bachelors, engineers and doctors. Many of them have been holding high-rankingpositions in the political, education-training and scientific research systemsin Vietnam.

Educational cooperation betweenthe two countries has diminished in the past 20 years. However, the CzechRepublic still provides between 7-10 undergraduate and graduate scholarshipsfor Vietnamese students each year, he added.

Over the past five years, the PragueUniversity of Agriculture sends from 20 to 30 students to the Vietnam Universityof Agriculture to study each summer.

Leaders of Czech universities pointedout barriers in educational cooperation, including languages and complicatedvisa procedures which make it hard for Vietnamese students to study in theCzech Republic.

Ambassador Truong Manh Sonrecommended the Czech side simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese students.

Czech Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs Lukas Kaucky said he would discuss the problems raised at the seminar withthe Czech Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education.
