The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association led by its Vice Chairman PhamTien Tu paid a working visit to the Cuban Institute for Friendship withthe People (ICAP) on December 3.
ICAP PresidentKenia Serrano described the visit as a symbol of the traditionalfriendship and solidarity between the two Parties and peoples.
Serrano briefed the Vietnamese side on ICAP and Cuban friendshiporganisations’ key activities in recent time, as well as immediate andlong- term difficulties that Cuba has been experiencing under thecurrent embargo.
Regarding action plans for thefuture, the ICAP President stressed that Cuba will pay specialattention to strengthening exchange activities with internationalfriendship organisations, including Vietnam , in 2013. It is inattempt to obtain support from the international community for thelifting of the current embargo and the release of the fiveanti-terrorist soldiers illegally jailed in the US .
The Vietnamese people and the Association’s friendship activities arehighly valued, she said. Serrano also thanked the Vietnamese Party,Government, and people for their wholehearted support for Cuba .
Tu spoke highly of Cuban sentiment for Vietnam ’s past liberationcause and its Agent Orange victims. He expressed his hope that the twosides will further enhance friendship activities in the coming time,strengthening the special cooperative relationship between Vietnam andCuba .
On the same day, Deputy Chief of theParty Central Committee Department for International Relations OscarMartinez Corcoves gave a reception to the Vietnamese delegation at itsheadquarters.
The two sides briefed each other onrecent world developments, in particular the Middle East , andexpressed their support for the Palestinian people’s fight forrecognition as a legitimate, sovereign and independent state.
During the visit to Cuba from November 26 to December 4, theVietnamese delegation attended the international conference in theEastern Prefecture of Holguin for the release of the five Cuban heroes,and visited some friendship organisations in Havana. /.
