Ho Chi Minh City (VNA)🗹 – The 55th anniversary of the Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic relationship (December 2, 1960 – December 2, 2015) was marked at a ceremony in HCM City on December 3.
The event was held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association of HCM City.
Tat Thanh Cang, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, said the Vietnam – Cuba friendship has been continuously strengthened and developed to become a precious asset of the two nations.
Vietnam always treasures Cuba’s solidarity and wholehearted support for Vietnam in Vietnam’s struggle for independence as well as in the current national reconstruction and development, he said.
The official called for stronger cooperation between the two countries adding that the two-way trade exchange between the city and Cuba has been modest in the past years but the situation will change as Cuba is implementing new economic policies.
He suggested the two sides could increase cooperation in hi-tech agriculture, consumer goods manufacturing, and mechanic industry for agriculture, said Cang.
Bernabe Garcia Valido, Cuba’s General Consul in HCM City said the Vietnam - Cuba relationship has been good all the way since the first days, which is a firm foundation for deep and extensive cooperation in all fields to bring economic relations to the same level with political ties.
He expressed his belief that the younger generations would continue writing new historic chapters and deepening the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
At the ceremony, the VUFO and the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association presented prizes for winners of the painting competition with the theme of “Vietnam – Cuba Friendship,” which was launched in September.

The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
