Vietnam contributes to ASEAN’s consensus on important decisions
The Vietnamese delegation to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, led by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, has actively contributed ideas to creating ASEAN's consensus on many important decisions such as measures to improve the group's institution effectiveness, implement the five-point consensus on the Myanmar issue, and support Timor Leste.

Jakarta (VNA) - The Vietnamese delegation to the ASEAN ForeignMinisters’ Retreat, led by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, has actively contributed ideas to creatingASEAN's consensus on many important decisions such as measures to improve thegroup's institution effectiveness, implement the five-point consensus on the Myanmarissue, and support Timor Leste.
The statement was made on February 4 by Ambassador Vu Ho,acting head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam, in an interview granted to Vietnam NewsAgency correspondents in Indonesia on the outcomes of the retreat.
Ambassador Ho said that the Vietnamese delegation not only discussedwith other delegates to identify ASEAN's focuses and priorities, but alsoactively proposed many practical initiatives that are in line with the commonconcerns of other countries and the region.
Foreign Minister Son announced Vietnam's plans to organise activitiesto promote inclusive recovery in ASEAN, respond to climate change, energytransition, as well as a number of cooperation activities with partners such asthe Republic of Korea Day in ASEAN, and ASEAN-China meetings on theimplementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea(DOC).
At the event, the Vietnamese official emphasised the meaningof a Community that truly serves the people and benefits the people.Accordingly, he suggested ASEAN pay more attention to cooperation and equitableand inclusive development in sub-regions, contributing to ensuring that peopleenjoy equitably the fruits of the Community building process.
Minister Son also raised Vietnam's view and stance on manyissues that directly affect ASEAN and peace and security in the region.
According to Ambassador Vu Ho, Vietnam's opinions on the EastSea and Myanmar are assessed balanced and constructive, contributing to promotingthe values of dialogue and cooperation, upholding international law, whilepromoting the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance, and reinforcingASEAN's principle stance.
He added that this ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat putforward important orientations for the group’s activities in 2023./.
Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on February 4 emphasised the need for ASEAN to maintain a balanced and harmonious approach to its partners, promote the effectiveness and value of ASEAN-led mechanisms, and better the building of mutual trust and understanding for cooperation in response to emerging issues.
Vietnam will work with other ASEAN member states to discuss, agree on processes, procedures and necessary measures to support Timor Leste to become an official member of the group soon, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said.
At the working session, General Secretary Lam presented the Party Committee of the VFF and central mass organisations with the Politburo’s Decision No. 304-QD/TW, which outlines the new structure, functions and tasks of the VFF Central Committee, marking a significant step in improving its organisational effectiveness.
Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.
Cheng stressed that this is third time PM Chinh has attended the meeting and he is among the few senior government officials participating in this year's event, which is considered as a rare and commendable gesture.
The fact that the Vietnamese PM has been invited to attend and speak at this important event for three consecutive years reflects the WEF as well as the international business community's recognition and high regard for Vietnam's position, role, and contributions to global and regional economic growth.
This new era marks a crucial phase in which the country must strive with determination to fulfil its strategic objectives, achieving breakthrough development at new levels of sophistication, quality, and global standing, laying the foundation for further growth. Era after era forms a continuous history of development, ascending steadily from one level to the next.
The resolution on such mechanisms aims to serve as a legal basis for opportunely dealing with difficulties and hindrances caused by legal regulations in important, priority, and urgent areas that require immediate settlement so as to unlock resources, facilitate economic development, and turn legislation into a competitive edge.
