Vietnam, Colombia hold fifth deputy ministerial-level political consultation

Hanoi (VNA) - Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son andhis Colombian counterpart Francisco Javier Echeverri conducted the fifth deputyministerial-level political consultation via a video conference on October 8.
Deputy FM Son shared about Vietnam’s socio-economic situation, experience incoping with COVID-19 pandemic as well as measures to recover the economy andensure social welfare following the outbreak.
He affirmed Vietnam’s support to the peace process in Colombia.
Deputy FM Francisco Javier Echeverri, for his part, informed the VietnameseDepty FM about the situation in Colombia and the government’s measures tomaintain stability and continue socio-economic development amid currentchallenges.
He affirmed that Colombia highly values Vietnam’s attainments in the fightagainst COVID-19 and socio-economic development and the country’s assumption ofthe role of the ASEAN Chair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UnitedNations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.
Both sides reviewed and assessed the fields of cooperation between the twocountries and the two foreign ministries, and discussed measures to enhancemulti-faceted cooperation in the coming time.
They agreed to continue working closely together to maintain the development ofrelations, promote high-level visits when situation allows, increase dialogueand connectivity between ministries, sectors and businesses, creating a legalframework for trade and investment promotion, and cooperation in healthcare,agriculture, culture, tourism, and education-training.
On the basis of mutual trust, they also discussed international and regional ofshared concern, and agreed to continue their coordination and mutual support atinternational and multilateral forums that Vietnam and Colombia are memberslike the UN, Forum for East Asia – Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), ASEAN – PacificAlliance cooperation./.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnam Permanent Mission to the UN, has appreciated the positive results of a peace agreement in Colombia and believed that this will contribute to ensuring security and safety for people in the country, especially those in conflict areas.
