Vietnam, China foster defence cooperation

Defence Ministries of Vietnam and China have reached consensus on measures to further their cooperation.
The Defence Ministries of Vietnam and China have reached consensus on anumber of measures to further the cooperation between their defenceand border guard forces in the coming time.

Theresults came up during a friendship talks between the two ministries’delegations on March 11 in Mong Cai border gate, the northern provinceof Quang Ninh, as part of the 2014 Vietnam-China friendship borderdefence exchange programme.

The two sides agreed tocontinue carrying out contents of the cooperation agreement signedbetween the two defence ministries, while maintaining high-levelmeetings and exchanges between the two armies, finalising the four-levelexchange mechanism between the two countries’ military zones and borderposts and expanding joint patrols.

The two sideswill also expand the model of twinning relations between localities ofthe two countries and set up a hotline to facilitate contacts andinformation sharing.

Speaking at the event, DeputyDefence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, who led theVietnamese delegation, noted that defence cooperation between Vietnamand China has yielded many good results, becoming an important pillar inmaintaining and strengthening the friendly relations between the twoParties, States and peoples.

He said leaders of thetwo defence ministries decided to organize the friendship borderdefence exchange programme with the aim of creating a new breakthroughin bilateral defence ties.

Meanwhile, LieutenantGeneral Qi Jianguo, a deputy chief of the General Staff of the ChinesePeople’s Liberation Army, the head of the Chinese delegation, praisedthe idea of organising the Vietnam-China friendship exchange programme,describing it as a creative and constructive activity to consolidatemutual trust and friendship between the two armies.

The 2014 Vietnam-China friendship border defence exchange programmeofficially began on March 10 in China’s Guangxi province.

The Vietnamese defence ministry delegation led by Sen. Lt. Gen. Vinharrived in Guangxi for a friendship talks with the Chinese defenceministry delegation led by Lt. Gen. Qi Jianguo.

During their stay in China, the Vietnamese delegation also visited a number of Chinese military units.-VNA
